Yes. Dr. Sam Vaknin, professor in psychology, mentioned that loneliness and a solitude lifestyle appears to be the optimal human condition. He said that "people seem to prefer solitude, because it's easier than the difficulties of having to deal with other people." In the past, humans chose to develop relationships with each other out of necessity for survival.

Nowadays, human relationships are not necessary since we can provide for all of our needs by ourselves. We can see this in the fact that younger and younger generations are perfectly fine in choosing to be more and more isolated.

Some food for thought...

Indeed...each life is complete in itself; it does not require a "soulmate." However, for social, economic, or emotional necessities, one may seek the company of the other.

Solitude does not mean withdrawal from the world, but rather participating fully and passionately in all activities while keeping a little distance for oneself!

That's a great point. I couldn't have said it better myself. I went through hell battling my demons, i.e. parental judgmental voices in my head from childhood, existed in solitude for almost 2 years on most days, and attended therapy.

I eventually came out on top and feeling like my authentic, true self. Unlike most people, I am highly self-aware and know when I choose to turn my ego on.
