Modern Philosophy Intro
Philosophy for the Common Person
I’m writing insightful articles on philosophical and classical ideas and how they can be applied to modern times and the average person. Essentially, reaching back into the past for things and ideas of value that can be applied to the modern world by everyday people. I would never claim to be a philosopher, however, I do glean excellent insight from studying the great philosophers and thinkers of the past and applying that knowledge to my own life. Now, I want to provide that same excellent knowledge to others.
At least every 2 weeks I am committed to writing a new insightful article in the beginning. I will also write articles more frequently as I get more effective as soon as possible. Some articles will be longer than others. I will be succinct when needed, and I will be more in-depth when that’s needed as well. The last great philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche, once stated “It is my ambition to say in ten sentences what others say in a whole book.” Well, I aspire to that as well in my own writings.
I am a US Army combat veteran. I’m college educated with a Bachelors Degree in Homeland Security and a Graduate Certificate in Business Risk Managment from Boston University. About eight years ago I was a professional writer in the business world.
I’ve work in the blue-collar, skilled labor world, as well as the white-collar corporate world. In college, I completed a course in Philosophy 101 and Ethics 101, plus I’ve read a few books by Socrates, Nietzsche, Descartes, Bertrand Russell, and some broad, summary-based books on the subject. However, now I’m diving in deeper into the world of philosophy and want to share the knowledge that I acquire with each of you who read and subscribe to my newsletter. Masterpiece philosophy and literary books, such as The Republic by Plato, Thus Spake Zarathustra by Nietzsche, and Faust by Goethe. What kind of gems can we find in these classic books of literature, and how can we benefit today? I know without a doubt, that we can learn a lot and gain enormous value from such a task. To take a line from Grant Cardone, “what if there was an idea that was worth a million dollars to you out of simply one book? Would that be worth it to you?” My intent is to read the hard books, find the gems of knowledge, and discuss how to apply it in your own lives.
I’m a happily married man to an awesome wife and have a very wonderful and loved daughter. In fact, my inspiration for reading more into deeper philosophy and classic literature came from my daughter. I wanted to hand down to her my personal written thoughts regarding life as I knew it to help offer her additional insight about the world she lived in. After I read a few books in philosophy over last few years and just started a few new ones this year in 2023, I decided to finally write down my notes and thoughts. I’m now going to share those notes and thoughts with not only my daughter, but anyone who wants to read and subscribe to my email newsletter.
I know it’s difficult to find value and meaning in a world with a dearth of unified value systems for a whole plethora of reasons that we will analyze over time. As I travel down the road in the search of my own meaning to life, I hope you all can find meaning your own meaning to your life as well.
