Do This One Thing To Be More Productive
“What we agree with leaves us unmoved; dissent is what makes us productive.” - Goethe
This is a fascinating quote from Goethe in Johann Eckermann’s book “Conversations with Goethe.”
Once we dissent and disagree with something, we are thrown into a state of action.
Whereas, when we agree with something, we are simply content with the status quo.
A lot of people run away from things they dissent with or avoid them.
Dissent motivates us to take action to change what we dissent with.
Political Dissent
One example of dissent is in politics. If a person politically agrees with the status-quo they become comfortable. If they dissent and disagree with the political status-quo, they now have a reason to be politically active and productive.
They might be politically protesting, going to town hall meetings or voting to be politically productive.
Without dissenting politically, that person would have less reasons to be productive and take action. The most productive I’ve ever been politically was when I dissented with the political status-quo.
Action Step:
If you want to be productive in life, find what you dissent with and confront that, no matter what it is. That'll get you motivated to take action.
